Excuses, Excuses.

Go ahead let’s hear them. You know they are nothing more than that. If you want it bad enough you’ll do it. I still picture the boss sitting behind the desk slamming his fist on the desk hollering at you to “get the job done.” If he is saying that chances are you’re the person who can get it done. Although you may hate that he does this, it does work because it forces you to do something. Just like your personal goals you have to force your own hand to do something. Right or wrong do something and read your results. Use your drive to take care of yourself and reach your goals. Here is a list of the most poplar excuses I hear.

  1. Running hurts my feet! Running hurts my knees! I can’t run. The only way I will agree to this is if your doctor says so. Otherwise go get your self some good RUNNING shoes not high top basketball shoes, hiking boots, or sandals. Walk or run in a high quality running shoes from a running store. My favorites are Mizuno, Asics, and Brooks. Warning: they are only good for about 400-500 miles. When your legs start hurting again chances are your shoes are wearing out. Don’t cheap out on this. If you can’t or won’t run find another cardio exercise.
  2. I don’t have time? What time do you get up in the morning? It only takes 40 minutes to get a good cardio exercise in. There is nothing more refreshing than a 40 minute, 5 mile run at 4:30 in the morning. It will wake you up the rest of the day. I got addicted to the morning run after the first few weeks.
  3. I already only eat 2 meals a day and I can’t loose weight. You obviously didn’t read the book. Start over again because you have missed so much
  4. I don’t like working out and exercising. I don’t like going to work everyday but it is a necessity to live. Working out is a pleasure, a great way to release some stored up energy, and a great way to get some self satisfaction. Try different exercises to find something you will enjoy. Go walk around a sporting good store and look at all the things they have.
  5. I keep hitting a weight loss plateau I can’t break. You obviously didn’t read the book. There are countless ways to break a plateau.
  6. I have tried everything. What are the last 10 things you tried that didn’t work?
  7. I am not using a computer to help tell me how much food I can eat. You don’t have to but a simple excel spreadsheet that does the calculations for you makes the program much easier. You can’t put in more calories than you can use. You won’t have to forever but at first you will need some help to track.
  8. I am to busy with my kids. If you’re overweight I would guess you kids are getting close also. You owe it to them to get them a good start on life to learning the proper way to eat. How much did you learn in your general studies at school about nutrition? I don’t remember anything but a short session in health class in high school.
  9. I am not giving up my pop. It’s up to you. Drink your pop but do the math and tell me if they empty calories are worth it. They will only slow your progress.
  10. I like to go out drinking with my friends. Sorry to hear that. Go out with your friends to the bars but don’t drink the alcohol. It is not worth it. If you can’t say no than it is not that important to you and you don’t want it that bad.
  11. I’ll just go get those weight loss pills. Do you really think they work? Why would the world be so fat it they did? What is your plan for getting off the pills when your done? You have learned absolutely nothing about being healthy with the pills? Would you really put those things in your body for no reason? Are you that lazy?
  12. This program is to confusing I don’t know what to eat. Yes it is difficult to “get” your food choices at first. But think of your food selection as a huge dart board. Right now if you tracked your calories I would venture to guess that you are off the board or near the outer ring if you have a lot of weight to lose. What worked for me was to start off with healthy food and just try to get the calories and appropriate percentages of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats at least on the dartboard. Then as I got better at my selections I got better and better and tuned into the bullseye. Don’t be disappointed if you’re your not perfect right away because you won’t be. In my opinion just get close and continue to get closer as time goes on. Whatever you are doing now with this program is probably better than you were doing before so you should see results quickly even if your not perfect. AS you get leaner you get better because you are basically practicing the program and learning you body. When you get leaner your accuracy will be easier and your food selection will continue to grow.
